Returning to our Mediterranean Roots!

Four years felt like an eternity since we last soaked up the Grecian sun. The memories of our 2014 Mediterranean adventures –  exploring Athens’ ancient temples, savoring figs fresh from the tree, and running laps in the ancient Olympic stadium in Olympia – were still vivid in our memories.  Yet, the longing to be back was undeniable.

So in 2018, we returned to the embrace of Greece, once again taking a Greek island cruise to explore! The promise of turquoise waters, hidden coves, and legendary sunsets fueled our excitement. Ready to relive the magic and create new stories, our Grecian adventure awaits!

To begin our adventure, we started on the island of Salamina – where we could reconnect with family.

The Island of Salamina

When we last visited our Aunt Gisela and Uncle Soto in 2014, it was at their home in Essen, Germany…where we had a marvelous time and were exposed to the joys of music!  This time, we were fortunate to be able to spend time with them at their Mediterranean home on the island of Salamina.

Mediterranean paradise, Salamina!

Apart from the pure joy of spending time with family, Salamina is a heavenly escape from the hustle and bustle of Athens.  There are no tourists on the island…this is where the locals go to escape the city – think of it as “Cottage country for Greeks”!  When you are there, you cannot help but relax…it’s in the air, the sun, and the crystal clear seas.

While we enjoyed the view, the relaxing vibe, the delicious food, and beautiful weather, there really is nothing like being with family!

Dinner with family!

…and after a fabulous meal (followed by a lovely nap!), it was soon time to party! While we were resting, Tante Gisela was calling the neighbours to come over for an evening of music and dancing, Greek style!

It's a Greek dance party!

What an amazing night! It seems like every time we return to Greece, there is dancing involved! Opa!

Time to head out…

It was time to say goodbye to our amazing family!

Ready for the next World Series!

After an amazing reconnection with the family, it was time to head to Piraeus port in Athens and begin the next leg of our Mediterranean adventure on the cruise ship, Celestyal Crystal. This ship was a bit smaller than ‘typical’ cruise ships, but has all the comforts you would expect and one major advantage…it could get into shallower waters and thus, islands that other ships may not be able to without disembarking by tender (shuttle boats from ship to shore).

Well, Reader, what great adventures did we have? You’ll have to stay tuned to our blog to find out over the coming days! Opa!
