My Favourite Thai Dish!

,

As part of our Thai cooking class in Bangkok, we made my absolute favourite Thai dish… Pad Thai!

After you read this recipe, you will be eager to start cooking so you can enjoy a delicious meal…  You can eat it at every meal, in fact, we had it for breakfast…

Time to cook!
Time to cook!

So, here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic (minced)
  • 5 medium sized peeled and deveined prawns
  • 1/3 cup tofu-extra firm cut in 1 cm. strips
  • 1/4 cup raw bean sprouts or cabbage
  • 1/8 cup chive or green onion cut into 3 cm pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 100 g dried rice noodle (pre soak in warm water until soft then drain)
  • 1 tbsp palm sugar or brown sugar
  • 2 tsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp ground roasted peanut or cashew
  • 1/2 tsp ground dried red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste or white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp pickled white radish, finely chopped or pickled cabbage

All of the seasonings, an egg, bean sprouts, green onions, tofu and garlic

4. Add the egg (but not the shell) and scramble

6. When noodles become soft, turn off the heat

7. Eat and enjoy with fresh vegetables and/or spices

All ready to eat
All ready to eat

As you can see, the process is nice and easy, and it is the preparation that takes the longest…. In fact, we learned that Thai people do not cook Pad Thai at home, they would rather go to a restaurant or a street cart and eat it there.  In the end, we found that preparing it ourselves was worth all of our efforts!  After you make and try this, I am sure it will also be your favourite Thai dish too!

Yum yum!

Looks not too hard…and looks delicious! It is a good thing that you like to cook! Your parents are very lucky! When I get home to Canada, I will try this recipe as I also LOVE Pad Thai!

  2. Hi, Zoe and Mikhaila, this dish sounds absolutely delicious and also easy to make. Maybe you both can help me to prepare it, because I probably don’t know where to find the ingredients here in Courtice. Love the step by step instructions and photos. Lots of hugs from Oma

Okay, now we’re cooking! I love Pad Thai; especially with prawns. Only five!?! Have to have more! Love the way you organized your ingredients; just makes cooking easier. I try to do this prior to preparing a recipe, too. I am also glad you added substitutions because sometimes we may not be able to find some of the ingredients needed. When you get back, we will just have to compare our dishes. Bet it will be a Thai…HA! HA! Keep on cookin; good lookin!
