Spending Time With Family

, ,

While spending time in Essen with our family we did many fun things with our cousin Sophia who speaks German.  Some of the activities we did were going to “Tree 2 Tree”, mini golf and hanging out at home.

Tree 2 Tree

Tree 2 Tree is an obstacle course high up in the trees where you are harnessed to a cable above your head.  Some of the obstacles were:

  • walking on a single wire
  • taking big steps from beam to beam on a rope bridge
  • climbing down a rock wall

  • taking big steps on wobbly planks of wood or wire twelve meters above ground

At some parts you get to zipline from tree to tree which was really fun.  At the end of each course, you also get to zipline down to the ground.

I have been practicing my splits so I can still be flexible when I return to dance next year so I did the splits twelve meters in the air!

In Canada, my family and I went Tree Top Trekking which is similar to the place we went to in Oberhausen.  We had fun in Canada but really enjoyed it in Germany because we were able to spend time with our cousin Sophia.

Mini Golf

At mini golf Sophia, Mikhaila and I had a great time keeping score and cheering each other on.  My dad, mom and Tante Gisela were a team behind us.  What I thought was interesting was that there were four different balls that you were supposed to use for different holes.  The balls were made out of different materials; one was bouncy while another one was hard.

Hanging Out at Home

Playing German Monopoly with Sophia and Mikhaila was a lot of fun.  What was interesting was that the money was not Euros, it was with German Marks but still the same game.

We also had fun doing cartwheels outside and eating ice cream.

We had a lot of fun in Essen especially because we were spending time with some family who we don’t see very often.

Though we speak different languages we still could communicate and help each other but most importantly…. have fun together.

Zoe, love the pictures. That tree course looks fun. We’ve taken our kids to a similar place in France. Not sure how long you guys are in Germany…If you guys end up spending time in Frankfurt while your in Germany you should check out their zoo. It has a different way of making enclosures so it seems more open and natural than some other zoos.. http://www.zoo-frankfurt.de/schnellzugriff/information-in-english.html
We also really enjoyed the Rhine river boat cruises if you guys have the time … There are hop on hop off boats so you can visit the little villages along the way.

  2. Hi, Zoe, the first thing I do after I get up in the morning is turn on my computer and look for your postings. This never fails to put a smile on my face, and today was no different. It looks like you all had a lot of fun and your practicing your split is a good idea, ha,ha, I am sure you get lots of exercise. Just reading your post made my body ache all over 🙂
It’s great that you were able to connect with your family in that playful way and of course, ice cream is always good. Gazillion XOXOXO’s

    1. Hi!

At first, being so high up was scary but I built up my confidence and did the splits! It was so much fun! 🙂

  3. Hi Zoe,
It was really nice to meet Sophia by way of your post! The pictures are very indicative of how much fun all of you were having!
Loved your splits! Everyone certainly enjoyed those beautiful ice cream sundaes! Who won the Monopoly Game?
I really loved all the smiles! Love, Baba

    1. Hi!

I really enjoyed the ice cream. Lemon Yum! 🙂

Either Sophia or I won the Monopoly game. Mikhaila still owes $1000 to the middle of the board because she ran out of money! 🙂

One time, while on the zipline, I got stuck and had to pull myself up! It was a lot of fun! 🙂
