Homeschooling

We will be homeschooling Mik and Zoe as we travel.  Since we’ll be seeing so many different places, we will focus upon project based learning and inquiry as an approach for learning. Some of the “Big Ideas” we’ll focus upon are: traditions and heritage, infrastructure (communication, transportation etc…), and how we can make the world a better place to live through peace, sharing ideas and innovations.

I’m a big supporter of libraries as I was a teacher librarian for a number of years.  The Toronto District School Board has a great virtual library, as does our local Durham virtual library.  We will be using many of their databases to support our learning on the go!

For every country we visit, the girls will be expected to do research on the general facts as well as highlight places we might like to visit.

They will be expected to write in their online journals about what they have seen and experienced, so make sure to check out their blogs on our site.  Of course we will Read, Read, and Read some more from our RTW Booklist.

As well, we will be doing authentic math such as the daily budget, currency exchange rates, shopping, sales tax etc…We will also be working on problem solving to ensure they keep sharp with their skills.

Here are a few sites that we will be using to support their learning.
