Why Should We Get a Dog After Our Trip?

,

We were given the chance to housesit in Divonne les Bains for ten days with a black short haired German pointer dog named Truffle. He made me really want a dog when we get back from our trip. I think we should get a dog because they are fun, they force you to go outside everyday and exercise, and dogs are great for security.

We had a lot of fun playing and doing tricks with Truffle. Some of the great tricks he could do were: sitting, lying down, rolling over, sitting with his paws in the air, and my favourite, jumping in the air to catch apples and treats.

It was a lot of fun throwing balls down the stairs and watching him go after it to play. It was also quite funny when we sat down on the floor because he would come and sit on our laps like a lap dog. As you can see, a dog will make your life a lot fun.

A dog will also force us to walk every morning and evening for a good hour. We will get our exercise and so will the dog. In the morning, we can take our dog on a walk and the fresh air around us and happiness of the dog will make us feel energetic. So that is another good reason we should get a dog. (Are you agreeing with me yet?)

Dogs can also be good for safety.  If you have a dog and there are burglars, the dog’s bark will surely scare them away! They will also keep the racoons and other small animals out of our garden and garbage.  This is another reason why we should get a dog.

It is great to have a dog because they are fun, force you to walk and exercise and are a great security system. If you agree that my parents should get us a dog, please comment and help persuade my parents.

Dogs are great. You should definitely get one when you get home. I have a Portuguese Water dog who is ten months old now, and she is a lot of fun.

    1. Hi!

You should tell my dad how much fun your dog is so maybe we can get a dog like yours! Thanks for the vote!

  2. Well of course you should get a dog, but, they are a lot of work and responsibility. It’s like having a baby at home. You can’t always do the things you want to do anytime because you have to be home for the dog. When they get sick you are sad and have to take them to the vet. That is hard sometimes. And cleaning up after them is a big responsibility. Not just what they do outside, but inside as well. Muddy floors in the spring and fall, snowy floors in the winter and hair on the furniture, your bed and your clothes. We always loved having a dog but you have to make sure they fit into your family schedule. They are a member of your family and have to come first over lots of other things. Vacations and even going away for a weekend are not always possible. Having said all that, I think you and Mik have shown great responsibility while looking after animals during your trip so far. This proves you are ready for a dog! Good luck!

    1. Hi!

I think after our trip we will get an idea of the responsibilities needed. Right now we are at a house with 2 dogs, 6 chickens, 4 goats, 8 pigs and 10 sheep. The dogs are really cute but do need care and attention and Mik and I have been having fun taking care of them. Thank you for the vote!

  3. You have my vote Zoe! What a great piece of persuasive writing – I think Truffle was one lucky dog having a carer like you two when his family was out of town. He is a very talented dog too!!!! I love all the pictures.
Have fun with your next “sitting experience”. Love Teta Doreen xoxoxo

    1. Hi!

You would have been amazed seeing the tricks he could do in real life! He is a very well trained dog! Thank you for your vote!

  4. You will get full support from me. BUT , and it is a big but… When you are back in your daily life, a dog will still need out to do ‘ his business’ at least four times or more a day, then the walks that you talk about, and training a puppy isn’t easy…. Just saying. I have had five dogs over the years and LOVED them all. But they do need work and commitment . But here is the biggest BUT of them all …. They give you tons and tons of love and fun.

    1. Hi!

I think all of the love and fun will make up for the hard work and responsibility.
      Thanks for the vote!

  5. Hi Zoe, everything you say about having a dog is true! Quincy and Charlie agree with you too! In fact, they said that if you had a dog, they would help to walk the dog and they would play with him or her anytime at all. The dog could even come over her for sleep over parties! Scott, Amanda, Charlie and Quincy all vote yes to a dog.

    1. Hi!

I will definitely make sure Quincy and Charlie meet our dog!
Thank you Charlie and Quincy for being one of our dogs first friends!

    1. Hi!

I have a plan to have a dog, a cat and a ferret when we get home. We really enjoyed taking care of the cats Kitty, Sam and Jack in Ireland.

  7. Oui!! oui!!

    1. Bonjour!

Oui, Je souviens ton beau chat Polochon! 🙂 Un petite chien qui est aimable est bonne pour moi! Je pense que je voudrais un chiot. Un chiot peut être un aimable et heureux ami. Merci pour le vote!

  8. Hi, Zoe, you got my vote too, not only did you make a convincing case (maybe you should think of becoming a lawyer 🙂 , but after all the considerations you cannot forget that dogs give you unconditional love. Gazillion XOXOXO’s

    1. Hi!

  9. Hi Zoe,

Your smile with Truffles is worth a thousand votes! You have our vote too! Love, Baba

    1. Hi!

I’m totally convinced you should get a dog after seeing how wonderful you are with Truffle and how happy you both looked in the pictures. Yes, they are a big responsibility, but having responsibilities is a good thing.
    I vote yes.

    Lots of love,
    Teta Helen

    1. Hi!

Thank you for the vote! Though there is a lot of responsibility, I think that the love and happiness of the dog will overpower the hard work! 🙂

It’s a no-brainer. Yes dogs are a lot of work but like children they are awesome and better than you could have imagined before having one of your own.
So glad to be reading your postings and Harriet and I are impressed by the organization involved. Best wishes to all.

I have only lived 2 years in my entire life without a dog so you have my vote as well. As the others have said they can limit your ability to go away on some trips, but we have always had good luck with house sitters to look after our dogs and cats over the years. AND we have looked after many dogs in the past for friends, happy to extend that service! My only suggestion would be to consider adopting a dog from the pound – so many are looking for a new home and best of all you can see their personality if they are a bit older. LOVE reading about your trip !! Are the days and adventures starting to blur?? so wonderful you have the blogs as a journal to re read over the years, so you can come back to every place in an instant when you see the pictures again and reread the details. Keep them coming!!

  14. Can your dog give high fives:),ANYWAY you ahold really get a dog they are smart , fun , and good companions (but you might wanna train them NOT to bark at the : tv, door bell and stuff like I had to do with max! Skype me , Abby
