Concert Night at the Papoulkas House!

What a night! After my aunt prepared a fabulous dinner and dessert, uncle Soto’s music student, Dimitri, said he would play and sing a few songs for us. It wasn’t long before we heard beautiful piano music and singing coming from the living room. We all made our way to listen to him play, and for the rest of the evening, we relaxed and enjoyed a wonderful private concert of English, Spanish, Greek, and Italian music – it was beautiful. Take a listen!

Dimitri is from Greece and for a time, was playing and singing in some Greek hotels. But his real dream is to be an opera singer. In Germany, there are over 90 opera houses compared to only one in Greece, so there are more opportunities for him in this country. He is currently singing in the Essen Opera House as a member of the chorus for the opera. We wish him good luck and all the best in the quest for his dream.

So far on our trip, one of the biggest impacts on all of us, are the people who are “going for it” and trying their hardest to turn their passions into their careers. It is really inspirational to hear their stories and makes us all want to improve ourselves. We talk about this a lot with the girls – and they are seeing first hand how much hard work and dedication it takes to be successful. These are some great life lessons for all of us.

Over the next few days, both Mikhaila and Zoe practiced on the piano and said that they would like to play piano like Dimitri. It’s great to see how inspired they are  – thanks Dimitri!

Wowsa!!! What a great experience and memory for all of you, especially the girls. You are so blessed to have such a variety of knowledge and talent in your family network. And an in house concert!! Sheesh!! Like ‘the rich and famous’! Such great motivation for the girls even if they just use their music for their own relaxation and pleasure. I have never regretted my music training as it opened much of the world AND my career(music teacher). But most of all it gives me pleasure, as I am sure it will for them.

    1. Hi Herta,

Music and the Arts inspire creativity so we want the girls to be surrounded by it so they can appreciate the beauty. It’s all part of the learning as we travel – seeing how others live and the beauty they bring to the world.

      Cheers,
      Kat:)

  2. Hi, Katina, what a treat, thank you for sharing. It’s wonderful how you combine meeting up with family, making new friends, culture, and many other adventures during your travels.

    1. Hi Oma,

This part of the trip is the Arts, another part will be about farming, another about history – there is just so much to learn about in this big beautiful world of ours!

      Love,
      Kat:)

  3. Kat, that was amazing! Thank you for sharing. I felt like I was in the living room with you! The piano is my favouite instrument. We had a piano in our home when I was growing up. Unfortunately I never mastered it. I hope Mikhaila and Zoe are inspired to practice, practice, practice! I will definitely come to their concert! I’m enjoying following your posts and your fabulous adventure. Judy

    1. Hi Judy,

We love the piano too and it’s always nice to hear it played so well. When Mik and Zoe put on a concert at our house – we’ll call you and Craig over for a listen.

      Take care,
      Kat:)

  4. What an evening that would have been! Not only a fabulous dinner, but entertainment as well! This certainly was a wonderful experience for all of us! Music, I find, touches the very heart of the soul!
Katina, thank you for sharing this evening with us!
Thank you Dimitri for your talent which was brought into our homes and I am glad that Soto is your teacher! Thank you Gisela and Soto for all your kindness and thoughtfulness!

    1. Hi Mom,

You would have loved it…music is everywhere. In Germany, they really focus on the Arts and culture. We need to make it more of a priority in Canada for all of our kids.

      Cheers,
      Kat:)
