The Best Indian Desserts!

,

Out of all the Indian dishes we made, I am writing about the most important. That’s right, I’m talking about desserts! These are two of my favourite desserts we’ve eaten so far; they’re almost as much fun to make as they are to eat! 🙂 The dishes are kheer, which is a rice pudding, and gaaja halwa, which is made with carrots.

We had previously tried these treats before making them so we knew we liked them.  We had the kheer at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, saw the halwa being made by a street vendor, and ate some in Agra.

Now, without further ado, the recipes for these amazing desserts!

Kheer

Ingredients

1 cup basmati rice (mid level)

1/2 litre milk (or enough to cover the rice)

2 cardamon seeds

Sugar to taste

Golden raisins

Cinnamon, pistachios, saffron, almonds, or other additional ingredients of your choice (optional)

1. Put rice and milk in a pot and bring to high heat.

2. When the milk starts to boil, turn down the heat and let it simmer.

3. Add more milk and continue to simmer until it starts to thicken.

      Hello Teta Doreen,

You can substitute the raisins with nuts or other dried fruits. Whatever you choose, the desserts will taste yummy!

      Hi Baba,

Even though we didn’t need the warmth from the desserts, it added to the desserts because, as you know, most things taste better when they’re warm! 🙂

  4. I am really going to have to start cooking! You guys, have given us so many great recipes with such great pictures and instructions!
